3M was founded in the year 1902 by 5 individuals. The company initially started out as a mining company which operated on a small scale in the Nothern part of Minnesota. The company had a different name back then and was known as Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company. The company now is a force to be reckoned with and has come a very long way since its inception over a decade ago.
