History
EBay started as a small home run auction website in 1995 and was soon transformed into the giant it is today. One of the first products to be sold on eBay was a broken laser pointer, which coincidentally was bought by a collector of laser pointers. Pierre Omidyar quickly recognized the necessity and value of his website and soon monetized the auctioning website.
Today eBay operates in over 30 different countries and sells more than $2000 worth of products every single second. Originally eBay was a strict auctioning website, where sellers could put up their items and buyers would bid for it, the product going to the highest bidder.
