The minigame server named after one of its founder's username, Hypixel, was developed and released by the then two gamers Simon and Philippe. Hypixel was intially a YouTube channel where both the creators created adventure maps of various Minecraft games. Later on, they decided to make a server to play where they could showcase their Minecraft maps.
How Hypixel gained popularity?
When Simon and Philippe first created their Hypixel minigame server, they had only one vision in mind. It provided the users something to play as they waited for friends and other players to come online to play Minecraft. However, as time went on, minigames have found their place in the gaming community. It became so popular that the creators put some real efforts into the server, with over a hundred thousand players logging onto the server every day. By 2018, Hypixel is welcoming 14.1 million unique players almost each month. Hypixel managed to become so popular that it has won four Guinness World Records.
