Omega is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer based in Biel/Bienne in Switzerland. Originally named “La Generale Watch Company,” it was the brainchild of Louis Brandt, established in 1848. In 1982, the company was rebranded as Omega and currently is a subsidiary of the Swiss Swatch group.
Omega is renowned globally for their chronograph movements, every year they compete against Patek Philippe in observatory trials and Omega has been known to make watches accurate to less than 12 seconds of variation in a year.
Omega has held some of the most coveted titles a watch manufacturer can have. These include being the first company to manufacture a functioning watch for the lunar surface, worn by NASA's Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldric during their historic moon landing in 1969. British flying corps and US army have selected Omega watches to be their watch of choice for their combat units.
Since 1932, Omega has been the watch of choice for timekeepers of the Olympics due to their impeccable chronograph movements and precise timekeeping. Omega has also been the choice of watch for the fictional character, James Bond, who are often regarded as the superior authority in being a classy gentleman. Recently paying homage to James Bond, Omega released the Seamaster Aqua Terra which is resistant up to 15,007 gauss of magnetic force and was one of the first to produce a watch entirely of non-ferrous materials so it can be completely resistant to magnetism.
World famous Indian actor, Rajnikanth, has also been known to be a great admirer of Omega watches, along with others such as George Clooney, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Nicole Kidman and Elvis Presley, whose watch was sold in 2013 for a staggering $1.8 million, making it the most expensive Omega watch to have ever been bought by an individual.
Morals
Omega's company slogan is “exact time for life,” which they developed to commemorate their historic performance at the Olympics in 1931.
Over a 160 years of legacy is not built easily; Omega is committed to clientele satisfaction since they are expected to be in use for decades together, Omega offers some of the best after-sales services in the industry. They perform complete service every 5 to 8 years on all watch models and offer a 2-year warranty on each service run and the parts used.
Products
Although their website does not have a purchase online option, they do give a sitemap to their boutiques worldwide, so as to offer the best client experience.
Omega has a large variety of watches for men and women, with chronograph, co-axial or quartz movements, depending on the client's preference. They possess 4 main collections, namely, Omega Constellation, Omega Seamaster, Omega Speedmaster and De Ville. Constellation and De Ville are the only collections offering quartz movements, and there are over 600 watches in each of the aforementioned collections.
The Omega Seamaster is well known as this is the collection with the models sported by Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery and Daniel Craig in the James Bond movies, the name is fitting as James Bond is a Navy veteran.
The Omega Speedmaster includes models such as the Professional Moon watch which has been to the moon and worn during the first moon landing in 1969.
There are also some speciality watches, such as the Olympics editions released to commemorate the partnership between the Olympics and the Omega.
The watches come in a wide variety of straps such as metal links and solid metal which includes gold, silver and platinum. Leather straps and NATO fabric straps are also offered to clients who may prefer a natural touch rather than cold metal.
Omega also showcases jewellery, sunglasses, fragrances, and accessories such as cufflinks, belts and key holders. With an impressive, flawless track record of over a century and a half, Omega can be trusted to offer clients with some of the best-built watches ever made and owing to their spectacular customer service; one cannot go wrong with choosing Omega.
