Timex is a watch manufacturer established in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1854. Originally called the Waterbury clock company, Timex hoped to introduce low-cost watches to the market in an era of their expensive, European counterparts.
Historically, the name Timex was known to be a mash-up of Time, as in Time magazine, and Kleenex.
Timex, in its infancy, came out with a $6 clock which helped them gain traction along their path of producing inexpensive, well-made watches. During the 1900s, they produced a simple pocket watch costing just $1, and it was very popular, so much so that it was known as “the watch that made the dollar famous.” Even Mark Twain, the author, was drawn into these watches.
They played into the market by employing the use of characters such as Mickey Mouse, which helped them sell over 2 million pieces to children alone. And by the end of the century, every third watch sold was a Timex.
Timex perfected the art of the mass manufactured watch mechanism, which they named the V-conic, and this helped the company rise to fame. , and they even had advertisements on TV every week trying to destroy their own watches, but the resilience was incomparable.
They offer international shipping on their website, along with a 30-day return guarantee and up to a 2-year warranty on their timepieces.
Products
As Timex deals solely in watches, their collections are staggering in terms of designs and variety.
The Marlin collection features classic watches with leather straps, and one of the more targeted designs in this collection includes the Snoopy watch.
The Fairfield collection for both men and women consists of chronograph watches with separate date, month and year dials, offered with a metal link, leather or stainless steel mesh straps.
The Ironman collection includes digital watches and analog, but with silicone straps and water resistance. This collection caters to both men and women and has a more unique GPS watch which offers global positioning for sports enthusiasts.
The Easyreader collection, exactly as the name implies, is a no bells or whistles, run of the mill, simple analog watch. With leather straps, they are a classy, fashion statement rather than a watch with all the frills.
Timex also offers a Command collection, where each of the watches are built in resin and are water, dust and shock proof, for the ultimate outdoors person.
They have also partnered with Scholastic, to introduce kids to watches with their simpler, colourful and eye-catching designs which help kids to learn reading the time. Added to this, is the Peanuts collection, where the watches have notable characters from the Peanuts comics displayed on them.
They lead innovation when it comes to straps; they showcase silicone, nylon, metal links, leather and steel mesh straps. With their clever, quick release straps, most of their watches can be interchangeably used with any strap of one's choosing. Offering 14 different colours of straps, customers can be assured of never going out of fashion or having to wear the same watch every day.
Timex offers customer service like no other especially when it comes to their products, they put customers first and even offer a personalized engraving on the watch back and dials are it for any occasion whatsoever.
