woot.com is an American online shopping web portal. The online store debuted in 2004 by Matt Rutledge and was acquired by Amazon in 2010. The website started with the idea of One day One deal in which it used to sell only one item per day until the stock of that item got exhausted or was replaced by any other item at midnight.
Sales Model of Woot
When Amazon acquired woot.com, then it changed the idea of One day One deal with a difference that if a product sells out fast, then a new product will be presented for sale. The items are not announced in advance and run on the concept that products cannot be replaced and can only be refunded. The shopping catalog includes the categories of home and kitchenware, computers, electronic items, shirts, gardening tools, sports, and gourmet. Each of these categories is further sub-divided into a relevant list of things. Each listing displays the items available for purchase each day.
What is unique at woot.com?
Unlike other shopping portals, woot.com does not sell a large number of products. The site offers crazy deals and also presents those products that you even didn't know that you need it. There is a provision of daily polling and chats. The chat helps in gaining in-depth reviews of the product from other wooters. An app of Woot is also available that makes your shopping easy and mobile. Initially, the site contained a daily podcast that featured the product's description with a funny and entertaining song or skit. Now, the frequency of this podcast has been changed from daily to weekly. Photoshop contests and prizes are also offered at woot.com.
Woot-Off and Bags of Crap (BOC)
The woot-off is a day-long event that contains a bunch of unannounced deals. The deals are launched every 30 minutes. The deal comprises meager prices with limited quantity offers. During this woot-off, products are sold quickly and are replaced by a new product within a minute or two. There is a percentage bar that displays the stock of the current product remaining. BOC feature contains a random collection of items that are pushed into a box meant for sale. This box can contain new items, waste batteries, and anything. You never get the details that when they will come and what you will get.
